How old do you need to be to ride a jet ski in Tenerife?

Full breakdown of age rules, license requirements, and passenger regulations for the Canary Islands.

The short answer: drivers must be 18+, passengers from 8 years old with a height above 1.30 m. But the full picture depends on which tour you choose, whether you ride alone or as a passenger, and what Spanish maritime law says about the Canary Islands coastal zone.

Driver age

Spanish navigation regulations require jet ski drivers to be at least 18 years old. You'll be asked for ID at check-in — a passport or EU national ID card is fine.

Passenger age

Passengers aged 8 to 17 can join if they are at least 1.30 m tall, physically capable of holding on, and accompanied by a responsible adult. A parental consent form is signed on site.

License — needed or not?

For all guided tours and rentals under 4 hours, no license is required — Spanish law allows operators to provide pre-ride training and certify competence on the spot. Longer unguided rentals may require a PNB (Patrón de Navegación Básica) license.
