How old do you need to be to ride a jet ski in Tenerife?

Short answer: in Spain, the standard minimum age to drive a jet ski is 18. Passengers are different. Spanish law sets the driver's age, but it does not give one minimum passenger age for every commercial tour. The operator decides whether a child can join, based on its insurance, the jet ski, the route and the child's ability to sit and hold on safely.

Passenger and child rules
A passenger sits behind the registered driver and does not control the jet ski. There is no useful island-wide answer such as “all children from 8”. The checked operator terms differ: Jet Ski Island accepts passengers from 6 if they can place their feet securely, while Los Gigantes Blue sets its passenger minimum at 8.
The guide can still refuse departure if a child cannot sit steadily, reach a secure position, wear the supplied life jacket correctly or follow instructions. A minimum height, combined-weight limit or requirement for an adult driver belongs to the specific tour, not to every jet ski activity in Tenerife.
Licence: guided excursion or independent hire?
For an authorised circuit or collective excursion, Article 5 says the user does not need a boating qualification when the activity follows the conditions in Article 7. These are the guided tourist formats normally advertised as “no licence required”. They include a briefing and supervision; no previous jet ski experience is usually needed.
Private use and a jet ski hired by the day are a different legal category. The driver needs an accepted Spanish boating qualification or navigation licence, and the qualification details must appear in a day-hire contract. Duration alone is a poor shortcut: check whether the product is a supervised circuit, a collective excursion or a true independent hire.
What to check before booking
Confirm the minimum driver age, the passenger age, whether a 16- or 17-year-old needs the operator's own form, and which original ID documents must be shown.
