Jet ski deposits, insurance and extra costs in Tenerife
There is no island-wide jet ski deposit. A guided safari may require a deposit for multiple machines, while a licensed rental can ask for a different amount. Check the exact option before paying.

These are different offers, not one island-wide price list. A refundable security deposit is also different from a booking deposit paid towards the ticket price.
When is a security deposit required?
Ocean Jet Ski Tenerife's terms for Marina San Miguel require €50 per jet ski when a party books at least two machines. The operator accepts cash or card and says the deposit is returned after the tour. It also allows charges for damage caused by breaking safety rules. Its 40-minute trip is a guided safari, not an unrestricted circuit ride.
JetScoot publishes a different condition for its one-hour licensed rental from Puerto Colón: €200 per machine. The marina name alone therefore tells you little. Ask if the amount is charged or pre-authorised, when it is released, how the ski is inspected and what receipt you receive.
What does the required insurance cover?
Article 3 of Spain's Royal Decree 259/2002 requires third-party liability insurance for jet skis and accident insurance for rental use. Third-party liability concerns harm to others within legal and policy limits. It does not automatically pay for damage to the rented jet ski. The separate life-jacket requirement appears in article 9.
Ask for the policy summary and check exclusions, excess and the rules for negligent damage. A listing that says only “insurance included” does not tell you the full amount you might owe after an incident.
Extras that can change the final price
Photos, wetsuits, transfers, a second rider and lockers are not identical across operators. Jet Ski Island Tenerife advertises photos for €30 and wetsuit hire for €10, while some ticket types include them. Ocean Jet Ski lists equipment, an instructor and wetsuit among its inclusions, with photos and videos sold separately. Read the inclusions for the exact ticket you select.
Damage, cancellations and five questions to ask
No security deposit does not mean unlimited cover for damage. Ocean Jet Ski's terms allow repair charges when a rider breaks safety rules. That operator offers a full refund for cancellation or changes up to 24 hours before departure; other tickets may differ. Also check what happens if the operator cancels for weather and if you decide against riding while the tour still runs.
